The Community Story
The excitement began in the Fall of 1997 when Rev. Thad Spring and his wife, Jerilynn, began praying for God's direction as they were leaving North Lakeport Wesleyan Church after 4 years on staff as Assistant Pastor. After much prayer and consideration, they felt led to reach the people of Marysville with Christ's love. The East Michigan District approved their decision and in July 1998 they made their move.
From August 1998 to November 1998, Pastor Thad and family
prayed for new people and traveled to several churches to preach and share the
vision of a new Community of believers in the Marysville area. God answered
many prayers and over the next several months 10 families joined Community.
In
January of 1999 they began to worship in Viking Square Plaza and quickly made
room for a nursery and elementary age program for children. Through much prayer
and outreach activities, the group grew to over 20 families by the summer.
Grand Opening
The Grand Opening Launch for the church was held on September 12, 1999 at Washington Elementary School
and Community continued to expand it's
staff, ministries, and locations. But by the fall of 2000, the church's lease
was up at Washington Elementary School and they began to pray for a new
location.
In the Heart of Marysville
God answered prayers, when in December; they were able to
find a Bingo Hall (old Playhouse Theater) on Gratiot Blvd., which was for sale.
The 12000 sq. ft. facility in the heart of Marysville was just the right
location for the church. The congregation began to pray and ask God for
the funds for the down payment, which God generously provided.
After much hard work and effort, the congregation moved into their new facility in June of 2001. On October 14th, 2001 they held a Grand Opening for the facility and to share the love of Christ in the center of the community of Marysville. Today, Community continues to grow family by family, individual by individual, as we pursue the call to build a community of believers who love Jesus and love each other.
